Molding the Lens Exhibition

Molding the Lens: A Celebration of African Textures, Landscapes, and Conservation

Curated by Igsaan Martin, Molding the Lens is an immersive exhibition at ROAM A Xtina Parks Gallery, uniting the evocative black-and-white photography of Xtina Parks with the masterful ceramics of Cape Town artisans. This groundbreaking showcase explores the profound textures and forms of Africa’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage. Through the platinum palladium photographic process and hand-molded clay, the exhibition creates a dialogue between mediums, celebrating the resilience of Africa’s land and its inhabitants. Xtina’s striking images capture the raw beauty and vulnerability of the continent’s wildlife, while the ceramics reflect the tactile connection between humanity and nature.

Beyond an artistic display, Molding the Lens serves as a platform for conservation advocacy. The exhibition underscores the urgent need to protect Africa’s ecosystems, with a portion of proceeds supporting ROAM Africa Conservation. Under the curatorial vision of Igsaan Martin, the exhibition fosters a deeper understanding of African art, blending tradition with contemporary perspectives. Visitors will experience the power of storytelling through art, gaining insight into the delicate balance between nature, culture, and sustainability. Molding the Lens is more than an exhibition—it is a call to action, inviting audiences to witness, appreciate, and support the preservation of Africa’s rich natural and artistic legacy.
